8el launches lower cost, fully managed ISP services

Voice and data specialist takes critical step towards plans to offer Next Generation Networks

Reading, UK, December 1st, 2005 --- Networking specialist 8el is now adding Internet access to its expanding range of communications services from December 1st. The new offering is the 3rd new service launched by the company in as many months, having recently announced new business DSL and Line rental services in response to demand.

Aimed at its new and growing base of business users who include ADP, MORI and Centaur Communications, 8el’s ISP service will provide lower cost, faster access (by connecting directly into the Internet backbone), and more resilient Internet connections. Just as importantly however, the addition of this latest service cements 8el’s position as a convenient and efficient one-stop-shop for communications services.

Said John Rees, 8el’s Commercial Director. “The launch of 8el’s ISP service is strategically important for us. Not only do we recognise the immediate desire from customers to have all their voice, data and internet usage highly supported via a single supplier and with one simple bill to pay, but we also see ISP connectivity as a key factor in our ability to offer Next Generation Networks (NGN).

Explaining further Mr Rees said “With customers looking to capitalise on the cost and productivity benefits of emerging business services such as Voice over IP (VoIP), there is growing pressure on suppliers to deliver far more advanced solutions. Achieving complete visibility and control of customers’ networks from end to end is becoming paramount in the evolution and deployment of real-time tools. Being your own ISP and circumventing the need to use a 3rd party networks is one key component for building workable NGN’s allowing us the necessary control and ownership we see as so important”.

8el will initially offer 2 main ISP services – ISPConnect and ISPCoreConnect enabling it to expand its recognised high levels of service and support to include Internet connectivity by eliminating reliance on third party ISP’s.

8el ISPConnect

Offering business class Internet access, ISPConnect is being marketed at both single site organisations and existing multi-site customers (connected by an 8el WAN), who wish to maintain their corporate firewall at their own offices. Connectivity from the customer site to the 8el network is provided using a range of un-contended access methods, including leased line, Ethernet or xDSL.

ISPConnect also includes backup to the customer’s access circuit using either ISDN2 (128Kbps) or ADSL. In the event of a primary circuit failure, the backup connection will terminate into a different ISP Point of Presence (PoP).

8el has direct, un-contended connectivity to a number of tier 1 International IP providers, ensuring maximum route efficiency with significantly reduced predictable latencies. ISPConnect is provided with a range of IP addresses, full DNS service, DNS transfer and mail, store and forward.

8el ISP CoreConnect

For customers seeking additional resilience and further efficiencies, 8el is also offering ISP CoreConnect providing direct Internet connectivity from the 8el core. This service is also aimed at organisations with multiple sites, however this time for those operations that want to deploy a Wide Area Network (WAN), with a centralised Internet gateway. ISP CoreConnect requires the customer to co-locate their corporate firewall and optionally, their application or Web servers within one of 8el’s purpose built co-location environments.

The service has been designed to provide a number of compelling advantages over a traditional customer located Internet gateway, including:

Increased resilience by removing the reliance on a single customer site, which would generally act as the gateway for all other sites accessing the Internet.

Efficient use of bandwidth and increased network performance as remote Internet traffic is routed directly to the Internet, rather than being delivered via a gateway located on the customer site.

Flexible bandwidth upgrades as 8el has substantial capacity between it’s core network and its peering international carriers, therefore 8el is able to rapidly provision additional capacity, as required.
