Chaucer Insurance appoint 8el as voice and data network supplier

Reading, UK, January 13th, 2005 --- Converged network specialists 8el has secured a contract worth over £200,000 to supply a more resilient, converged voice and data network to Chaucer Insurance, the Fleet and Motor operation of leading Lloyd’s managing agency Chaucer Syndicates Limited.

Due to go live early this year, the new network will provide Chaucer Insurance’s 220 UK employees with rapid site-to-site data access and high quality voice connectivity between its Whitstable office and the London head office.

Chaucer Insurance, a recognised market leader for fleet and private motor insurance in Lloyd’s, made the decision after responding to findings that its existing network was leaving them potentially vulnerable to downtime and any resulting loss of business. As a result, it sought an alternative solution that could deliver more resilience, offer a single point of contact for voice and data services and provide high quality, proactive support around the clock.

Following its detailed review of available suppliers, Chaucer Insurance selected 8el to provide a fully managed and more dependable voice and data network. As part of the solution, 8el will implement intelligent Customer Premises Equipment (branded as freeport), on each of Chaucer Insurance’s two UK sites. In addition to managing voice and data traffic, 8el’s equipment will automatically provide a seamless back-up route over existing infrastructure, should the primary network fail. As an additional fail-safe, 8el will also implement an uncontended Virtual Leased Line connection to Chaucer Insurance‘s managed Disaster Recovery Centre in Sevenoaks.

Furthermore, the new network is fully scaleable and has been specially designed by 8el to accommodate Chaucer Insurance’s future capacity and service needs as well as address immediate performance requirements.
