The communications industry is currently undergoing an evolution with the advent of Next Generation Networking (NGN) technology, ie, an all IP based core infrastruture and the move from Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) to network based solutions.

A Next Generation Network is a data communications network, which enables voice, video and data to be carried over a single infrastructure. The all IP approach enables multiple services to be delivered over a constructed network from several suppliers, with seamless transit between networks.

Quality of Service

Each customer WAN is configured to support QoS as standard, allowing business critical applications and time sensitive traffic (such as VoIP, thin client application and video) to be prioritised across the network. QoS is an integral part of the 8el offering, and is typically supplied at no additional cost to a network quotation.

Depending on the required characteristics such as QoS, Class of Service (CoS), resilience or convergence; 8el is able to choose the right network technology and support package to deliver the business objective.

Full national network coverage

8el has partnerships with multiple network carriers providing national coverage with access to over 140 Points of Presence (PoP's). For each customer, 8el is able to work with the most appropriate underlying network partner to reach sites and supply a cost effective, fully managed Wide Area Network.

In addition to national networking, 8el is able to provide international coverage via its connections to global carriers from its PoP in 8el's data centres in London.

Resilient networking

All 8el Wide Area Network solutions focus on providing service continuity regardless of the scenerio. With this in mind all backhaul across the 8el network is via SDH protected circuits. Where required, customer tail circuits can be diversely routed or supplied with fully managed ISDN or DSL backup. Router and core co-location resilience can also be designed depending on the nature of the requirements.

Network monitoring

Specialised network-monitoring tools via the 8elWatch suite of products, gives customers the ability to monitor their network performance, enabling increased visibility and control of their network for IT departments. 8elWatch is an online tool accessible via a secure portal on www.my8el.com. It has a user friendly front end to allow users to view and download bespoke reports on their WAN.

24/7 Support

8el’s Network Operations Centre (NOC) and support team provide 24/7 engineering cover and pro-active fault finding. With the majority of customers using a number of voice and WAN services, 8el acts as a single point of contact for overall communications needs and a natural extension to an IT department. By offering a single point of contact, 8el customers only need to call one number to be connected to a highly trained support team engineer, rather than multiple calls to a number of suppliers to isolate the problem offering more efficient resolution to any issues.
