Customer site gateway - IP Freeport
Rather than requiring an expensive IP PABX on each customer site, CallPort just needs an on-site gateway, a component called an IP Freeport. The IP Freeport is directly connected to the core network and accesses all the key functionality of 8el’s managed VoIP solution.
This Freeport has a number of functions, including:
- Firmware updates for phones
- File uploads to phones
- AD based directory
- Personal user settings
- VLAN settings for phones
- DHCP (address allocations)
- ISDN and VoIP
Three different versions of IP Freeport are available; Lite, which does not have backup functionality, Standard, which incorporates backup to ISDN and Advanced, which allows the integration of existing PABX systems for a gradual changeover to IP.
Backup to ISDN is a resilience feature that fails calls over to ISDN should the core connectivity fail. The IP Freeport will also act as a registration point for the IP.
IP Freeport features
| Feature | Description |
| Remote diagnostic tools | Provides the 8el NOC with the ability to run remote diagnostics of the LAN and IP phones, includes HTTP server, Telnet and VNC support |

| Analogue to IP | 4 port analogue to SIP gateway |
| ISDN2 | ISDN2 presentation for ISDN devices such as Fax |
| ISDN2 or ISDN30 | ISDN2 and ISDN30 circuits can be connected into the IP Freeport and used as backup in the event that the primary access circuit is unavailable |
| Sail and Steam | Sail and Steam provides connectivity between an existing PABX (TDM) and an IP environment. Connectivity is via ISDN30. This solution allows a gradual migration to IP and deals with TDM capacity issues |
