VoIP networks designed for business

Next Generation Networks (NGN) are packet switched data communications networks, which enable multiple services such as voice, video and data to be carried over a single infrastructure; delivering multiple services over a single network from a single provider.

8el has extensive experience designing and building award winning, robust networks that support many leading UK businesses. Each of 8el’s WAN solutions is designed to be resilient, secure and closely tailored to cater for customer requirements.

NGN enabled networking

8el's NGN ready, Quality of Service (QoS) enabled WANs utilise this expertise in designing and running converged network solutions, enabling the smooth transition to and deployment of NGN services.

The key to providing a WAN in a Next Generation Network environment is to supply a low latency, stable throughput for the delivery of phone calls, video and data in a consistent environment. This method of networking provides a cost effective means of terminating calls to and from the PSTN through the use of a pair of central break out points.

Quality of Service (QoS)

Each customer network is configured to support ‘Quality of Service’ (QoS), allowing business critical applications and time sensitive traffic (such as VoIP and Video) to be prioritised across the network.

Superior network design

8el's advantage is its ability to deploy the right 'fit' for each individual customer. Depending on the required characteristics such as Quality of Service (QoS), Class of Service (CoS), resilience or convergence. 8el is able to choose the right network technology and support package to deliver the right customer experience.

Full national network coverage

8el has partnerships with multiple network carriers providing national coverage with access to over 140 Points of Presence (PoP's). For each customer 8el is able to work with the most appropriate partner to supply the most cost effective network.

8el is able to provide international coverage via its connections to global carriers from its PoP in 8el's data centres in London.

Access technologies

Customer sites can be connected into an 8el WAN via a number of different access technologies to best suit each individual business including:

  • Private ADSL (contended and uncontended)
  • ISDN lines
  • Private leased lines (2-8Mbps)
  • LES 10/100

Access technologies include ATM, DSL, Ethernet, Frame Relay, IP VPN and MPLS to connect remote single users through to core network sites.

24/7 Support

8el's Network Operations Centre and highly trained technical support team provide 24/7 engineering cover and pro-active fault finding.

Network monitoring

With the emergence of Next Generation Networks, 8el can now offer customers increased visibility and control of their network with their updated 8elWatch service

8elWatch enables:

  • Better planning for future requirements
  • Empowers IT professionals with the tools to make informed decisions
  • Allows bespoke reporting to cover specific customer requirements
  • Provides alerting of network issues before they become service affecting

8elWatch provides the customer with on-line bandwidth utilisation statistics for VoIP, WAN and ISP traffic. This information enables customers to monitor average and peak utilisation and therefore be aware of the changing demands on the network.

The collected data, presented as Web based reports, will allow informed decisions on capacity planning, performance and service level reporting across the network. This provides efficiencies in support personnel due to problem diagnosis improvements and avoids wasting valuable IT budget improving, replacing or upgrading equipment.
