IP phone service
CallPort - 8el's IP Centrex based telephony solutions
Why is NGN technology a step forward for corporates?
The emergence of Next Generation Network (NGN) solutions has had a significant impact on the way businesses deploy telephony services. Recent advances in networking technology have stepped up the industry's shift from PSTN towards Voice over IP (VoIP) based services. Utilising VoIP, NGN telephony provides ISDN replacement services, routing voice calls through 8el NGN access circuits over an IP based network; this is called SIP trunking. Rather than needing a PABX on each site, 8el has developed an IP Centrex solution. Customers are then connected by an NGN ready WAN, delivering free site-to-site calls.
8el's Corporate VoIP Services
8el CallPort VoIP service offers a cost effective, resilient voice solution. 8el can distribute services directly from their network, removing the need to invest in a costly phone systems. A user simply needs to plug an IP phone into the network and receive all the benefits of having a fully featured NGN phone system, controlled by the core network. The additional features available include voice mail, call recording and call conferencing.
8el Callport offers customer 2 options for implementing business VoIP:
Where customers do not want to deploy a managed VoIP service , 8el offer their IP trunks for telephony, an ISDN replacement for the IP world. By implementing a IP trunk solution multi-site businesses receive free site-to-site calls, a major cost saving compared to a leased line solution.
8el offers IP transit services dedicated to Voice Interconnect, the service connects customer sites directly into the 8el network using an IP backbone enabling them to have full PSTN connectivity.
Additionally, by utilising Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) customers have a choice of codecs (G.729 or G.711).

Evolving beyond the IP-PBX
8el's IP Centrex service provides a direct alternative for customers requiring a corporate Voice over IP and considering implementing an IP-PBX solution. The Centrex solution is a fully managed PSTN grade VoIP solution, where customers pay a monthly charge per user, to access the full stability and functionality of an NGN network; avoiding the capital expenditure and maintenance costs of an IP-PBX solution.
By rolling out a QoS enabled WAN to connect multiple company sites to 8el's carrier grade NGN gateways, the customers receive centralised access to corporate services and a single point of ownership. Each user is allocated an IP phone and an intuitive soft client, and then assigned a user type to determine the level of access and functionality. Services range from a single softclient user through to an operator requiring ACD access. An 8el IP Centrex solution is fully scaleable with the IT decision maker able to add and remove users profiles as required.
The business advantages of 8el's NGN telephony services include:
- Lower cost calls + free local and national calls
- Significant reduction in operational cost on line rental (~50 - 100% reduction in cost dependant on site configuration)
- Flexible work-force that can be contacted on a single number no matter where they are
- Centralised system administration enabling increased flexibility in the management of inbound and outbound communications
- Increased resilience with business continuity features
- Fully managed access to a rich range of corporate grade features
Number porting
Geographical Number Porting (GNP) enables customers to roll out a PSTN grade VoIP solution without changing their telephone numbers. Also, contrary to popular belief, this Next Generation solution is more resilient than a traditional ISDN30 as customers are able to configure back-up routes for inbound calls across an organisation.
By implementing Geographical Number Portability, 8el are not only able to pass significant cost savings back to the customer but also deliver a more efficient, resilient network infrastructure. By porting their numbers onto the 8el network customers will benefit from a call logger replacement service with superior management and information statistics. 8el’s advanced billing analysis and monitoring tool, CallWatch Interactive, gains access to key inbound as well as the traditional outbound data.

How it works
Whilst 8el's NGN telephony platform is based on SIP and VoIP, calls terminating 'off net' i.e. calls to national, mobile and international number destinations will be converted into traditional PSTN calls at the 8el core this connects users seamlessly to the legacy networks still in place. As ENUMS (computer telephone numbers) gain traction in the market through the 8el network, customers will be able to contact ENUM users at little or no cost per minute.
