Wireless networks 'driving mobile VoIP growth'

Wireless networks 'driving mobile VoIP growth'The proliferation of wireless internet services is stimulating the growth in mobile VoIP systems, according to tmcnet.com editor Michael Dinan.

Writing on the IT and telecoms website, Mr Dinan said that the adoption of mobile VoIP is set to speed up as access to wireless connections become more widespread.

In addition, softening resistance from mobile network operators and increased integration from providers is also contributing to a significant uptake in mobile VoIP.

Concluding that "global wireless growth has the potential to bolster VoIP use", Mr Dinan discussed these developments with Sanjit Chatterjee, director of marketing for the Singapore-based firm Reve Systems.

Mr Chatterjee agreed that the increase in global broadband adoption rates has major implications for the VoIP industry.

"Broadband penetration is a key enabler to the development of economies and to make countries more competitive," he said.

"We want to look at how the wireless growth around the world can aid the use of VoIP, how to manage the issue of multiple handset brands and operating systems in this space."

A recent report from Unstrung Insider stated that the growing market penetration of smartphones is bringing mobile VoIP technology to the attention of more users.
