Small firms opt for MIDs thanks to wireless internet

Small firms opt for MIDs thanks to wireless internetSmall and medium-sized businesses are more likely to adopt mobile internet devices (MIDs) if they have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

A new study from ABI Research has indicated that small firms are keen to use MIDs because they offer on-the-move VoIP communications.

The research also showed that SMEs are interested in MIDs capabilities for social networking.

Senior ABI Research analyst Douglas McEuen commented: "All mobile internet devices will feature Wi-Fi from the start. That is the essential form of wireless connectivity that no MID will be without."

The firm has predicted that the MID market will grow at a compound annual rate of 167 per cent over the next five years.

It also noted that their continued success will be dependent on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Mr McEuen went on to say that "ABI Research expected to see Bluetooth reach a 95 per cent penetration rate by the end of 2008"
