VoIP 'offers long-distance benefits'

VoIP 'offers long-distance benefits'People who make a large number of long-distance or international telephone calls may do well to consider voice over internet protocol (VoIP) rather than a traditional landline, a telecommunications research firm has asserted.

ICD Australia market analyst Mark Novosel told Nhada Larkin of the News Limited newspaper group that it would be worthwhile for people to take careful note of their phone usage patterns and then seek out a package that provides the best value for their needs.

When call patterns tend to include a large amount of national and international calls, users may find it cheaper in the long-run to adopt a telecommunications package that includes VoIP, or forego landlines altogether in favour of a computer-based connection.

Cost efficiency has been highlighted as one of the main reasons driving the VoIP market in a recent Frost and Sullivan report.

The publication, titled World Enterprise Telephony Platform Markets, indicated that VoIP is particularly useful in a working environment as it helps to facilitate collaboration and cuts the cost of call charges, monthly recurring fees and investment in infrastructure.
