VoIP presents a familiar face for spread out businesses

VoIP presents a familiar face for spread out businessesCompanies with facilities spread over a number of locations could see the benefits of implementing a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) by putting forward a cohesive front to customers, even when they may have operations in other countries, according to an expert.

Recent research has suggested that VoIP only trails laptops and handheld computers in terms of planned investment among businesses, according to Silicon.com.

BCS Engineerting and Technology Forum manager Adrian Walmsley explained that one of the main reasons for VoIP's rise to prominence was that companies with a workforce spread over many sites could present a unified front.

"One of the huge benefits of VoIP for small businesses is that it allows a group of distributed workers, perhaps home-based, to appear as a fully joined-up business to their customers, with a single external telephone number, the ability to transfer calls between extensions, hunt groups and all the additional facilities of a traditional PABX at a tiny fraction of the cost," he explained

With Silicon.com figures suggesting that six in ten businesses are considering VoIP investment, the technology looks set to boom, becoming an essential business tool over the next few years.
