VoIP market grows 10%

VoIP market grows 10%The market for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has grown by almost ten per cent in the third quarter of 2009, according to a report.

Research by the Dell'Oro Group has revealed that IP technologies such as VoIP and telephony services were increasing in popularity.

This rise in the adoption of VoIP business solutions was being driven by business investment in the internet calling system.

Greg Collins, vice-president at Dell'Oro Group, said there had been a boost to the market.

"Enterprises as well as small and medium businesses increasingly embrace IP Centrex, unified communications and IP business trunks or SIP trunks," he added.

Mr Collins revealed that investment in the equipment to support these networks had given the industry a boost.

He explained that the take-up of smartphones with VoIP applications had also created a rise in its popularity.

VoIP is a great way to save companies money as it allows people to call each other for free, or a relatively small charge, over a broadband connection.
