VoIP is the 'new generation'
Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) is the "new generation" of telecommunications, according to one expert.
George Van Horn, senior analyst at IbisWorld, says that the medium has been successful in drawing customers away from traditional landline networks over the past ten years and he expects this trend to continue.
"VoIP offers a cheaper alternative to traditional wireline services, which is why subscriber and revenue growth for this industry has been so strong" he suggests.
His comments come in response to recent data from market research company IbisWorld, which revealed that VoIP was the best performing industry of the decade.
While the technology only began to earn revenue in 2002, growth up until the end of last year amounted to 179,036 per cent.
Michael Phillips, product director at Homephonechoices.co.uk, recently advised anyone with friends or family living abroad to save money on international calls by adopting VoIP technology.
