VoIP investment 'affordable' for small firms
Small businesses are not priced out of the market for VoIP services, it has been suggested.
VoIP does not require an initial, large capital investment and can work effectively in both offices and working from home, said Dr Adam Le Gresley, head of operations at business and communications technology advisory group Technology Means Business.
His comments come as 60 per cent of small businesses were considering an investment in VoIP during 2007, according to research by silicon.com.
All businesses need is a router, a special phone - or a standard phone with an additional box - and everything else is dealt with by the VoIP provider, Dr Le Gresley said.
"Whether you have a physical work space, whether you're working from home or if it's a virtual organisation, you can have everything linked up to a relatively cheap voice-over-internet system,"; he added.
Dr Le Gresley said his organisation have seen its costs drop by almost two-thirds following the installation of its VoIP system.
