'VoIP facilitates innovation'

'VoIP facilitates innovation'Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) telephony has been lauded by speakers at an event for small and medium businesses (SMBs).

Mark Monday and Kerry McDonough, industry executives, say that "VoIP has enabled innovation in telephony like nothing before it," adding that the benefits contribute towards more cost-effective management.

"Consumer adoption of technology, combined with higher bandwidth and more reliable internet connections from ISPs and mobile providers, are going to be major catalysts for the advancement of VoIP," they told von.com.

The industry experts will provide a keynote address at SMB Nation's 2010 VoIP workshop on Wednesday, March 3rd, when they will discuss the future of VoIP for small businesses.

The event, currently being held in Las Vegas, Nevada, will attempt to highlight the advantages, in cost and other areas, of VoIP systems.

VoIP technology allows the user to make telephone calls using a computer network. A voice signal is converted from analogue to digital then sent over the internet, before being returned into a voice signal at its destination.

Advantages include cost effectiveness, higher levels of integration between communications systems and network consolidation.
