VoIP equipment market stabilising, says report
The market for VoIP equipment has started to weather the economic storm, according to a new report from Infonetics Research.
In the firm's latest Service Provider VoIP Equipment and Subscribers report, data for the second quarter of 2009 shows that a number of VoIP providers posted revenue increases during the period, with total revenues for VoIP equipment displaying a 0.8 per cent sequential rise.
Although industry revenues remain down on last year's figures, the report suggests that demand for voice application servers, core routers and switches remains healthy.
"The product and competitive landscape of the service provider VoIP equipment market is reshaping in 2009 as stronger vendors weather the storm and, in some segments, even thrive," commented Infonetics Research analyst Diane Myers.
According to the report, worldwide revenues for voice application servers enjoyed a sequential increase of 31 per cent in the second quarter, partly buoyed by the growing "residential VoIP" market.
A report released by TeleGeography last month revealed that VoIP services now account for more than 24 per cent of fixed-line telephone subscribers in Europe.
