VoIP becoming 'embedded' in business operations

VoIP becoming 'embedded' in business operationsNew technologies such as VoIP are fast becoming the everyday communications solutions in the daily operations of businesses, it has been suggested.

Tim Johnson, senior analyst for web information supply firm Point Topic, has said usage of new technologies, such as VoIP solutions, is driving demand for faster broadband speeds.

VoIP services, remote access, video conferencing and remote helpdesks are now becoming more embedded in the day-to-day operations of businesses, he said.

"These applications are the primary drivers for the increasing speeds organisations require now and in the future," Mr Johnson added.

Industry research by Point Topic has found that around half (51 per cent) of medium to large-sized businesses and 39 per cent of smaller firms expect to require higher internet speeds inside the next three years.

VoIP solutions are not only good for the environment by cutting travel costs, they also save money. Technology Means Business head of operations Dr Adam Le Gresley recently said the organisation saw its costs drop by almost two-thirds after it began using a VoIP system.
