VoIP gives business 'huge cost savings'
Businesses who switch to VoIP technology could benefit from huge savings in their telephony costs, it has been suggested.
More firms are realising that switching their voice and data needs to an internet protocol solution can generate both value and cost savings, said Samuel Schneider, marketing director at Bandwidth.com.
In what could have implications for UK firms, some small businesses have saved over 50 per cent on their telephony costs through VoIP in the US, Mr Schneider said.
Switching from DSL or cable to a dedicated internet circuit and then running voice traffic over that can bring small firms significant cost savings without sacrificing quality, he added.
VoIP enables telephone calls over the internet for free or at cheaper rates than standard phone calls and the technology could eventually lead to there being no distinction between the internet and telephone system, according to ComputerWeekly.com.
It is the third most popular planned investment among small businesses behind laptops and handheld computers, according to research by silicon.com.
