VoIP can 'overcome language barriers'

VoIP can 'overcome language barriers'Businesses who are struggling to overcome language barriers may want to use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solutions in meetings, an expert has said.

Mike Hunter, chief executive of Betterlanguages Limited, told the Telegraph that companies who are trying to overcome language issues may want to invest interpreters.

He added that taking machines into business meetings to translate would "potentially make you look ridiculous".

"For small companies, another possible approach is to use the web and conduct meetings by web conference or VoIP, possibly with a telephone interpreter," Mr Hunter remarked.

The Telegraph reported that businesses were losing as much as £250,000 each year because they did not have language translators.

English has the largest number of non-native speakers but it lags behind Spanish, Hindi and Mandarin as the language with the biggest number of native speakers.

Vistawide.com reported that 510 million people can speak English in the world, compared to 1,051 billion people who converse in Mandarin.
