Virtual offices 'can combat pandemic-related work issues'
Virtual offices making use of technologies such as VoiP and online collaboration tools can do much to overcome business continuity problems when it comes to pandemics.
This is according to US firm TDS Telecommunications, which says that virtual officers can also cut costs and offer extra flexibility for employees who need to spend more time dealing with customers even when a pandemic is not on the horizon.
Online collaboration technology can enable virtual meetings that can be recorded and posted on websites for workers and customers to refer to when needed, it explains.
"VoIP provides enterprise-class phone capabilities and more easily connects satellite offices together," it adds, stating that the medium also enable higher productivity and greater efficiency.
Mobile VoIP in particular looks set to take off in the next few years - according to In-Stat, more than 278 million people worldwide will use the technology by 2013.
