Small businesses 'turning to VoIP'
VoIP technology is becoming an increasingly useful business tool for the UK's smaller companies, according to an industry expert.
Writing in Computer Weekly, director of Microsoft UK's information worker business group Sue Hogg said that VoIP systems are no longer "the exclusive domain of the enterprise".
She claimed that VoIP is one of several communications technologies which were once out of reach for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) but, due to increased availability, can now help them improve their IT operations.
Commenting on VoIP, Ms Hogg stated: "It now offers a significant opportunity for SMBs to reduce communications costs and is very easy for small businesses to set up".
A recent survey of SMBs, conducted by AMI-Partners for Microsoft UK, identified several 'fast IT goals' for such companies: hosted applications, VoIP and increased communication and collaboration.
Using wide area networks is another way in which SMBs can remain competitive in the modern business environment, OneStopClick said recently.
8el's CallPort platform is a VoIP solution developed as the IP PBX alternative suitable for both small and mid enterprise businesses. It is cost effective due to the scalability of profiles - an organisation pays for what it uses, rather then significant upfront captial expenditure.
