Next generation broadband is hugely important to UK businesses
Next generation broadband is set to revolutionise the working world, it has been reported, as it claims to fill gaps that make the internet a still less than ideal place for businesses to conduct their work.
With the ability to move large files simultaneously, as well as realise the potential to work from home efficiently and conduct video conferencing, next-gen broadband will be crucial to business practices in the near future.
"It's hugely important. It will facilitate things like homeworking and remote conferencing... which at the moment, whilst they are possible, are invariably quite hard work,"; explained Michael Phillips, the product director of a major broadband company.
"Particularly as we work in a service economy in this country where things like creative services, such as design, require that we can move large files over high bandwidth connections instantaneously," he added.
The lure of faster transfers online will certainly motivate many businesses to invest sooner rather than later, but before long upgrading will become a necessity for companies in the service sector hoping to remain relevant.
The good news for UK companies though is that the influential government broadband advisory group has suggested that investment of £16 billion in making next-gen broadband available to 80 per cent of UK homes is beneficial to all, compared with the cost of not installing such new technology.
