Global IP telephony grows

Global Internet Protocol (IP) telephony services have seen revenue grow from $1,834 million in 2005 to $6,908 million in 2006.

Analyst company Point Topic has outlined that the three leading regions for IP subscribers have all record significant growth.

Western Europe, which has the most subscribers, produced $2639 million in revenue over the year.

The Asia-Pacific region netted around $1750 million while North America, in third place in terms of subscribers, produced $2411 million in revenue.

Figures also showed that average revenue per user for VoIP subscribers was highest in North America at $20, with western Europe on $15 and Asia-Pacific on $10.

John Bosnell, senior analyst at Point Topic commented: "The more VoIP is offered as a part of a bundle of services, the higher the average monthly VoIP revenue is."

The analyst firm has predicted that IP technology will start to dominate the residential market following increasing coverage in the corporate sector.

Meanwhile, another analyst company Disruptive Analysis has indicated that VoIP-over-3G will have more of a success than the voice-over-Wi-Fi approach which has been highlighted as a promising market.ADNFCR-1152-ID-18359496-ADNFCR
