Companies 'should convert to a VoIP network to cut costs'

Companies 'should convert to a VoIP network to cut costs'Companies that are looking into cutting telecom budgets should convert to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network to reduce costs, according to one industry expert.

Peter Readman, director of ttmobiles, notes that VoIP services are the "absolute lowest cost solutions", adding that they are "inexpensive" provided that a broadband connection is in place.

VoIP solutions can be adopted through the company's own network or by implementing external services.

His comments come in response to recent research from ttmobiles, which revealed that the average company spends one-third of its phone bill on paying for employees' personal phone calls.

This can amount to an annual cost of more than £1 billion per year.

Mr Readman goes on to state that mobile communications such as VoIP have become increasingly important, with expenditure on this technology outstripping that of fixed-line devices.

"In fact, 20 per cent of major companies spend more than half their IT budget on telecoms," he says.
