Business take-up 'boosts VoIP'

Business take-up 'boosts VoIP'Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is being boosted by business take-up of communications systems, Infonetics Research revealed.

According to the service provider, this trend is set to continue in the coming months and years.

Diane Myers, directing analyst at Infonetics Research, said the growth of the unified communications market was good news for the VoIP industry.

She added that in the long-term this would "have a positive impact on carriers as businesses look to extend VoIP from the premises to the wide area".

According to Ms Myers, companies are now focusing their spending on VoIP networks to meet subscriber growth.

This comes after research from the Dell'Oro Group revealed that the demand for Internet Protocol (IP) phones had increased by ten per cent in the second quarter of the year.

Popular products include IP desk, Wireless Local Area Network and soft phones.

In addition, the unified communications vendors Avava and Cisco have both had increased revenue gains in the second quarter of the year.
