VoIP rolled out on London's Savile Row

VoIP rolled out on London's Savile RowThe world-famous tailor Gieves & Hawke has become the latest organisation in the UK to switch its internal communications over to voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technologies in a bid to increase efficiency and cut back on long-term costs.

Under the new initiative, the company's 25 UK outlets and flagship store on London's Savile Row will be linked through the online communications systems, bringing significant advantages for its 160 staff.

David Collins, the financial director at Gieves and Hawkes commented: "Being able to automatically route calls to the right office allowed us to get rid of one receptionist, which saved us £20,000 for a start.

"There are also significant savings on line rental," he added, speaking to silicon.com.

Furthermore, the business has reported that VoIP has brought its staff the benefit of 'hotdesking' and flexible working as they are able to log into the system from remote locations.

The development comes soon after Birmingham University started rolling out a £250,000 wireless broadband network, including VoIP applications, so as to give its students and staff improved communication channels.
