Small Businesses turn to outsourcing as they 'bear the brunt' of innovation
Small businesses are 'bearing the brunt of innovation' within the UK's technology industry, according to the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta).
According to the organisation, which works to promote innovation among smaller enterprises, "everything about technology is difficult", largely as the academics who think up ideas often do not have the means to make it commercially viable, while small businesses often lack the necessary know-how.
Such a situation has prompted growing numbers of small businesses across the UK to outsource their technology operations.
"I would say that, interestingly, smaller businesses are more likely to be bearing the brunt of developing new technology," explained Anthea Harrison, investment director at Nesta.
"They struggle and obviously they dont have as much funding."
The comments come after the website personneltoday reported that the UK is seeing a "second wave of outsourcing", as businesses turn to third parties for their expertise and to the reduce costs and risks usually associated with taking on the responsibility of IT operations themselves.
