Top global companies to formalise technology innovation by 2010

Top global companies to formalise technology innovation by 2010As many as two-thirds of the world's top 1,000 companies will have put into place a formal technology innovation process by 2010, analysts have predicted.

With businesses looking to boost growth, profitability and competitiveness over short-to medium-term future, a growing number are seeing the need to keep on top of the latest technological progresses solutions in order to achieve this.

Indeed, according to Gartner, technology is becoming "inextricably linked" to business and management innovation and, as such, increased investment is being put into this sector byglobal organisations.

Speaking at Gartner's ITxpo in Las Vegas, Jackie Fenn, a fellow at the firm, stated: "Integrating emerging technologies is an important source of innovation for the business.

"Innovation initiatives may emerge from ideas generated by the business or from research areas, such as the IT organisation's Emerging Technologies Group. Organisations should exploit both idea channels and map clear links between their business goals, business projects and emerging technology planning."

The comments come as ABI Research has concluded that global demand for GSM services is likely to fall over the coming years, while corporate subscriptions to universal mobile telecommunications systems (UMTS) and 3G will rise.
