More firms set to use archiving

More firms set to use archivingCompanies are increasingly likely to utilise archiving as the need for it extends beyond email, according to a new report.

IDC has forecast that rather than simply storing email information, organisations will require archiving solutions for other unstructured content.

It believes this will be driven by a continuing need to remain compliant, a desire to make electronic discovery more efficient and the reuse information for new product development and other innovations.

"Archiving is a priority for midsize to the largest firms. However, larger firms view archiving in the broader context of information management, in particular for non-technical stakeholders," said Vivian Tero from IDC.

"The far greater opportunity for suppliers is in providing a larger information management portfolio of solutions rather than just providing a solution for archiving."

A separate report from the company revealed recently that the market for storage software grew more than 11 per cent in the last quarter of 2007 compared to the same period of 2006
