Dundee set for next-gen network

Dundee set for next-gen networkDundee is set to become Scotland's first 'fibrecity' after it was announced it would soon benefit from next generation broadband.

The broadband will be delivered through super-high-speed broadband connections, installed in the sewage network, and will be capable of speeds of over 100 Mps.

The work will be carried out by H2O, which has already kitted out other towns including Bournmouth.

Chief executive officer of H2O Networks Elfed Thomas told the BBC that his company are looking forward to the task.

"Dundee is the most densely populated city in Scotland, but this project will see us bringing connectivity to more remote areas as Fibrecity is an all inclusive solution."

The City of Discovery will see 600 kilometers of cable laid within the next 18 months and will be able to take full advantage of the expected surge in internet traffic over the coming years.
