Wireless networks 'growing in popularity'

Wireless networks 'growing in popularity'An increasing number of businesses in Europe are replacing their wired connections with wireless infrastructure, a new study has revealed.

Research commissioned by Motorola found that 76 per cent of companies now have some form of wireless network in place, while 88 per cent expect all of their equipment to be wireless-enabled within three years.

Marco Landi, acting vice president and general manager at Motorola's enterprise mobility business in Europe, said that many businesses are altering their strategies to achieve greater mobility, security and efficiency.

He explained: "With budgets being squeezed, companies in every industry sector are looking for ways to become more efficient.

"It is therefore no surprise that the trend is towards all wireless networks."

According to ITpro.co.uk, the growth of VoIP technology is another reason for the increase in Wi-Fi, as businesses are becoming more conscious of the need to handle their data securely.

Motorola's survey found that security was the top concern for businesses moving to wireless networks.
