Voice over IP market booms across Europe
A new report into the IP telecoms market in Europe has suggested that, by 2013, it may be worth £1.7 billion.
This would be a 70 per cent increase on the current market of £1 billion and is expected to be driven by both large and small businesses as they incorporate technology like VoIP into their telecoms plans.
The study, by Frost & Sullivan, found that companies are realising the benefits of using IP and beginning to include the technology in their plans with the aim of improving communications while cutting back on operating costs.
Frost and Sullivan research analyst Dorota Oviedo said that the growth would continue steadily over the coming years.
"The overall growth rate in the endpoint market is above that of the European GDP growth," she said.
"This is attributed to the low penetration of IP phones in a relatively significant IP PBX installed base, the growing attractiveness of softphone as a complementary client and the increase in demand for enterprise mobility solutions."
More specifically, it is believed that IP adoption is rising as businesses migrate to IP private branch exchanges (PBXs) and look to converge their networks.
