Small enterprises 'set to embrace virtualisation'
Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will turn to virtualisation technology in 2009, an expert has said.
Pallavi Kathuria, director of the server business group at Microsoft India, said that although awareness of virtualisation is still at a "nascent stage" among SMEs, many more firms will recognise the benefits of the technology next year.
Speaking to technology website efytimes.com, he described virtualisation as "one of the most prevalent technology trends in the enterprise segment".
Mr Kathuria also said that the potential for cost savings will see virtualisation appeal to many small firms in the near future.
"Virtualisation is a technology that can help customers dramatically reduce their IT infrastructure costs," he explained.
The Microsoft director added that virtualisation can also boost businesses in terms of server consolidation and disaster recovery.
"Going forward, we do expect more and more SMEs to embrace this technology," he said.
Last month, chief executive officer of Interphase Systems John Biglin said that virtualisation is developing as a "strategic solution" for disaster recovery.
