NHS updates technology
The NHS Trust in St Helens and Knowsley has rolled out a new communications and data storage system.
The trust is the latest in a line of local government authorities to upgrade its technology as it looks to streamline its operations and ensure data is safely backed up in the event of any unforeseen circumstances.
It will hope to improve efficiency with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology allowing better communication both between staff and with patients.
The roll-out includes new data storage capabilities aimed at improving disaster recovery procedures, as well as increasing the actual volume of data it can handle.
St Helens and Knowsley NHS assistant IT director Phil Corrin told computing.co.uk that the move puts the trust in a good position to deal with any unexpected mishaps.
"As a result of the new system, we can now produce a smaller window for backing up our live data, and in the event of a catastrophic failure, we can restore easily within a much faster timeframe," he said.
Only last month, Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust upgraded its equipment by implementing a new WLAN (wireless local area network) and VoIP technology.
