Is British VoIP better than US?

Is British VoIP better than US?Britons could be provided with better VoIP services than US users, according to a new report.

Strategy Analytics, a market research company, has revealed that broadband services in the UK are better than those in America.

The firm rated the quality of the technology in 57 countries using five different categories - speed, cost, urban quotient, affordability and household penetration.

The UK was ranked in 22nd place while the US finished one place lower in 23rd position.

VoIP solutions benefit from a faster internet connection as it can improve the sound quality of calls and ensure for a more reliable connection.

Ben Piper, director of the firm's multiplay market dynamics service and author of the report, expressed his belief that the use of multiple criteria improves the reliability of the research.

He said: "The traditional single metric approach of looking at broadband is becoming less relevant. We feel confident that our multifactor index is a superior indicator of a country's relative broadband advancement."

South Korea was considered to offer the best broadband services, followed by Hong Kong, Holland, Lithuania and Japan.

Britain also finished behind European counties, such as twelfth-placed France and Germany which finished 15th.

Internet services in the UK could be advanced by BT's roll-out of fibre-optic broadband.

The telecoms giant plans to provide the technology to two-thirds of British households by 2015.

Last week, one consumer trialling the service recorded download speeds of 77Mbps and upload speeds of 15Mbps.
