Disaster recovery 'aided by UK's largest data centre'

Disaster recovery 'aided by UK's largest data centre'Planning permission has been granted for what will be the UK's largest data centre.

The building, which will be powered by renewable energy, will help companies with disaster recovery solutions in the event of data loss.

James Cole, director of Keysource Ltd, which has designed and built a number of effective data centres and server rooms, said a conversation about renewable power should be linked to one regarding data efficiency.

He explained that it was important that the renewable power was reliable and suggested solar or wind power as the first port of call.

The UK currently has 95 data centres, which provide storage for companies and also an extra security layer for their data.

Dumfries and Galloway have given the new project the go-ahead and it will be developed by Lockerbie Data Centres.

At a cost of £950 million, the data centre will provide a 250,000m2 storage facility and will create 3,000 jobs over a period of five to ten years.
