Business internet solutions needed to reduce carbon emissions
Companies can use business internet solutions to reduce their impact on the environment, according to an IT expert.
Juliet Silvester, head of environmental programmes at Fujitsu, said that more IT solutions should be used because tacking the carbon challenge was important.
Introducing business internet solutions means that changes must be made to the way an organisation operates.
She added that it was about "cultural change, process change and looking at the whole way your business operates by using IT in a different way".
Ms Silvester was speaking at the Green IT Expo 2009, which highlighted the need for companies to change to green alternatives in the workplace.
According to Andy Lawrence, research director of eco-efficient IT at the 45 Group, cloud computing works well as an energy-efficient measure.
He added that cloud computing was the big IT trend of the decade and was being driven by its eco-efficiency.
Mr Lawrence remarked that cloud computing enabled the efficient building of data centres.
