VoIP providers 'neglecting small businesses'
Providers of voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solutions are failing to fully engage with smaller enterprises, an industry expert has charged.
Despite the fact that small businesses would represent the ideal opportunity for VoIP providers to find new markets, a significant number of providers are still failing to target their marketing towards this sector, meaning its take-up remains small in comparison to that of large corporations, the consultancy firm Analyses has claimed.
The claim comes after the author of the report 'Success Factors for Hosted and Managed VoIP in Europe', Margaret Hopkins, carried out research into what online communications products were available for smaller businesses only to find that they are still largely not catered for.
"Providers] weren't interested in the really small businesses at all. But I think [VoIP] is actually quite attractive for the very small businesses, with a few people in the office, just to get these boxes to plug into their broadband," she said
Furthermore, many small businesses have tried the technology but found it too complicated to use, thereby further hindering its uptake, Ms Hopkins added.
