VoIP competition growing

VoIP competition growingThe scale of competition between providers of Voice over IP (VoIP) services and applications is increasing in a number of major markets, it has been claimed.

Collaborations between network service providers and applications developers are likely to continue to expand as businesses aim to gain an advantage in what has become a busy industry, reports PocketGamer.

One example of how companies are joining forces to create new VoIP-based services is the launch of the Skype phone, which had been developed collaboratively by 3 and Skype in an effort to broaden the consumer offerings of both businesses.

"It seems the wading of VoIP into less muddy telecommunications waters is inevitable and partnerships of this sort (between networks and dedicated VoIP service providers) are sure to become increasingly common," writes Fraser MacInnes for PoketGamer.

"But if you're going to take advantage of any sort of mobile VoIP app, you're going to need to be holding a pretty robust data package, which can be pricey."

Skype insists that the 3 phone that carries its services is "great for business" and suggest that its technology can benefit companies of all sizes around the world.
