Almost 90 per cent of workers take their PDA to bed

Almost 90 per cent of workers take their PDA to bedNearly nine out of ten technology-addicted professionals take their personal digital assistants (PDAs) to bed with them, according to a new survey.

The research found that 87 per cent of those surveyed went to bed with their PDAs, with 84 per cent checking their emails just before going to bed and on waking up.

Starwood hotels survey of American workers also found that over one-third (35 per cent) said they would pick their PDA over their spouse if forced to choose between the two.

The numbers could well be replicated in the UK, with the growth in flexible and home working.

An extra 4.5 million staff in Britain will gain the right to request flexible working after the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform introduced new plans in May for parents.

New technology like Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has allowed employees to be increasingly mobile and be constantly connected to their office.
