Outsourcing to datacentres to be a 'standard business requirement'

Outsourcing to datacentres to be a 'standard business requirement'Third-party datacentres providing outsourced managed services will become an integral part of business over the coming years, a large number of industry leaders believe.

In a recent poll conducted by Coleman Parks, around three-quarters of the IT directors questioned felt that outsourcing certain operations would become a 'standard requirement' of business in the future.

The study also found that half of European companies with more than 500 employees are already outsourcing managed services, with 48 per cent having plans to do so at some point in the future, vnunet.com. has reported.

According to Chris Grant, the head of datacentre services at Colt Telecom, the company which commissioned the study, this will be particularly true for smaller businesses where a lack of server space may be an issue.

"The corporates can afford their own datacentres; it is the SMEs that are outsourcing them" he said.

The comments come soon after Vodafone announced that it had reached an outsourcing deal with IBM for the running of its operation in India, Vodafone Essar.
