IT businesses need not worry over economy

IT businesses need not worry over economyAnalyst Gartner believes that the IT industry will be at less of a risk to economic recession as other sectors.

Gartner vice president Mark Raskino, said at the Business Process Management Summit in London that the IT industry's slow but steady growth over recent years would result in greater stability in the midst of wider economic uncertainty.

According to IDC, Mr Raskino told the summit: "This time IT is nowhere near the epicenter and it gives IT an opportunity to get its ideas through the door."

IDC has previously forecast that spending on IT security will increase, owing to concerns over data theft, and an increase in businesses relying on remote access.

Fears of a recession in the US economy have been tempered by news of a recent rise, no matter how slight, in productivity, whereas IDC has predicted that the European IT security market would in fact grow by over 17 per cent last year to £10 billion.
