There's 'more to outsourcing than cutting costs'

There's 'more to outsourcing than cutting costs'Outsourcing should be seen as more than a way to cut costs, it has been argued.

According to Kevin Campbell, chief executive of outsourcing at global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company Accenture, outsourcing should be seen as an extended arm of a business and a way of increasing a skills base.

Firms should be looking to see how much outsourcing can add to their business rather than how much money the process can save, he says.

"Cost reduction and labour arbitrage has been a huge driver in outsourcing, but high-performance companies realise that it is not about what you can subtract from your business but what you can add to it," he said at a conference Financial Times Global Outsourcing and Offshoring Conference, ZD Net reports.

"They are looking for growth opportunities that come from having access to critical skills and a highly motivated workforce. It is the ability to put together different components of a company's operating model both onshore and offshore."

Mr Campbell also noted that are now looking to enter into multi-sourcing contracts rather than use many different providers.
