Mobile VoIP users set to boom

Mobile VoIP users set to boomIt has been claimed that the use of mobile Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) is set to expand rapidly over the next five years.

According to research from Disruptive Analysis, VoIP technology will take off to such an extent that it will have over 250 million users by 2012.

Dean Bubley, founder of Disruptive Analysis and author of the report, explained: "3G networks are increasingly capable of supporting VoIP, for both traditional mobile operators and independent internet-based VoIP challengers."

While at present, not many people are taking advantage of VoIP services, Mr Bubley believes that take-up will begin to soar once people recognise what mobile VoIP is capable of offering them.

At present, it is thought that many traditional providers are worried about the potential loss in call revenues as a result of VoIP services, but MR Bubley explained that firms will come to recognise that VoIP will benefit them by allowing them to save on the cost of running their network.
