Mobile internet solutions 'could benefit from broadband's failure'

Mobile internet solutions 'could benefit from broadband's failure'Phone-based web-browsing could become the chosen option for many consumers who are disgruntled with mobile broadband, according to a broadband expert.

Chris Marling, editor at Broadband Genie, said many companies were "letting down their customers with mobile broadband".

He remarked that a "more realistic approach" from Internet Service Providers could help to restore faith in the mobile broadband market.

"I really can't state strongly enough that mobile broadband is a great product and we want to see it succeed," he added.

According to the latest speed test data from Broadband Genie, the average user experience of mobile broadband was just 0.87Mb, which is 24 per cent of the top-end speed.

In addition, two-thirds of users have had speeds below 1Mb this year, which is much less than the speeds claimed by mobile network companies such as Vodafone, O2 and T Mobile.

Last month, there was a growth of more than 11 per cent of the people using Opera Mini - Opera Software's mobile browser.
