IT service providers set to concentrate on 'midmarket'
IT service providers are set to benefit from a host of new outsourcing opportunities as the market for medium-sized enterprises within the UK continues to grow at a rate comparable to larger firms.
That is according to a new report from IDC, which concluded that IT services vendors will increasingly focus on enterprises employing fewer than 1,000 workers.
In addition, this sector is likely to demand more from their IT services providers and will seek to establish better working relationships with them, while IT spending is expected to be concentrated on security projects and improving customer service levels.
Rebecca Segal, vice president of global services markets at IDC. Explained: "The midmarket need for a direct relationship with IT vendors is the most surprising and interesting finding of this study.
"Leveraging the hosted, on-line model would be key to achieve that."
The comments come on the back of the recent publication of the results of a separate study undertaken by Gartner.
According to the research firm, enterprises will increase their budgets for business intelligence (BI) platform solutions by an average of 11.2 per cent over the coming year, with the market for BI likely to be worth £2.9 billion in 2008.
