Study highlights managed services benefits
Businesses which use managed security services are performing better when it comes to security performance than those that keep such issues in-house, new research has concluded.
A study of 200 companies undertaken by the Aberdeen Group found that enterprises which outsource security issues to specialist managed services providers are better able to reduce their management overheads, improve their compliance performance and stop threats such as denials of service, which may otherwise impact upon revenues and reputation.
Businesses that took advantage of third-party managed services providers saw a 50 per cent improvement in their two-year service level agreement compliance levels, as well as a 39 per cent improvement in revenues, the research found.
Commenting on the study's findings, Carol Baroudi, research director in the IT Security, stated: "Beyond the lack of expertise, beyond the challenges of managing security solutions, even beyond potential cost savings, companies have recognised that they can actually get better protection by using a managed security service."
She added: "The market is realising that some kinds of services are better delivered by managed services providers that have visibility into security events across networks and a spectrum of customers, allowing for earlier detection and prevention."
