ISP under the microscope for violations

ISP under the microscope for violationsThe Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has called for US ISP Comcast to be punished for restricting customer access to the network.

It claimed the ISP violated agency principals by reducing peer-to-peer downloads on its network in order to ease congestion.

Free Press general counsel Marvin Ammori said the company had flaunted the rules and should be punished appropriately.

"Nine months ago, Comcast was exposed for blocking free choice on the internet," he said.

"At every turn, Comcast has denied blocking, lied to the public and tried to avoid being held accountable. We have presented an open and shut case that Comcast broke the law."

Comcast denies any wrongdoing citing the lack of clear guidance on the issue.

The FCC says that traffic can only be blocked as part of "reasonable network management" and clearly felt that in this case, Comcast has overstepped the mark.

Businesses looking to ensure consistent service from an ISP who provides efficient network access should look no further than 8el.
