Studies highlight homeworking benefits of online communications
Business leaders expect the advances being made in the field of online communications will serve to increase employee flexibility over the coming years.
Coming on the back of a new study from the Durham Business School, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has stated that working from home offers significant benefits to both employers and their staff.
The study revealed that, of those questioned, about 43 per cent who work 20 hours or more a week at home suffer from stress in comparison to 65 per cent of workers who are completely office-based.
Commenting on the findings, Nick Dines, head of communication at the BCC, said: "Overall, home working is certainly a concept that should be explored as more companies adopt flexible working."
"As working from home does not harm an employee's commitment and has real benefits for staff our argument is that a lot of duties can be done electronically thanks to email and the internet," he added.
Recent figures show that around 80 per cent of all UK businesses now have in place at least a preliminary policy regarding the adoption of online communications, including of voice over IP (VoIP) technologies, with many keen to take advantage of the benefits of giving their employees greater flexibility.
