Businesses in favour of flexible working
Flexible working is being put to use by a growing number of UK firms, it has been suggested.
Paul Sellers, policy adviser at the Trades Union Congress (TUC), said that business leaders are prepared to adopt flexible working strategies as they can help boost productivity.
It comes after the TUC's recent analysis of the Labour Force Survey found that one in five employees in the UK has to spend more than one hour commuting to work each day.
Mr Sellers said: "They [business leaders] want their staff to be fit and ready to work, not have them going through a wringer having had a long train journey."
In an era where new IT technologies such as VoIP and faster broadband speeds are leading to the creation of converged communications solutions, Mr Sellers added that homeworking is also being used by many firms, because it enables business leaders to appoint more staff or free-up office space.
