Big firms to drive VoIP future, report claims
Large businesses across Western Europe and the US will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of voice over internet protocol, a new report has concluded.
According to ABI Research, big firms' attitudes to the technology will determine whether online communications systems successfully make the jump into the mainstream and it is likely that hosted services will be central to any potential growth in the sector.
While hosted VoIP telephony systems originally held the greatest appeal for smaller companies without the resources necessary to run their own in-house system, larger companies could be attracted to hosted PBX services as they fear losing market share to their smaller competitors.
Stan Schatt, vice president and research director at ABI, said: "Increasingly, hosted services will interest larger organisations and will be offered by a greater number of service providers as premises-deployed, small-business VoIP solutions become more cost-effective."
